GENERAL DESCRIPTION:  organize chapters of students in selected high schools and middle schools in Detroit, developing issue campaigns in each chapter; develop leaders at local chapter level; bring leaders to city-wide trainings and actions.  (NOTICE:  1 PT position is available.)

Responsibilities

  1. Develop and strengthen assigned chapters of YOUTH VOICE in their institutional setting (high school, agency, congregation), working toward excellence and long term sustainability;
  2. Develop relationships with institution leaders at the YOUTH VOICE sites.
  3. Recruit adults to the YOUTH VOICE Clergy Team and the YOUTH VOICE Adult Support Team;
  4. Implement the curriculum and leadership development plan for chapters of YOUTH VOICE;
  5. Ensure that each chapter has an issue/action campaign, and that chapter leaders are participating in the Executive Committee of YOUTH VOICE;
  6. Co-coordinate with the Lead Organizer of YOUTH VOICE efforts of recruitment of new chapters; 
  7. Assist Lead Organizer of YOUTH VOICE in other efforts, e.g., fundraising, strategy development, transportation, trainings.

Qualifications

College Degree (or equivalent in experience).  Internship in community organizing.  Experience working with high school age youth.  At least 3 months staff experience in a major institution (e.g., high school, religious institution, agency, summer program).  Reliable transportation.  Valid driver’s license.  Writing skills.
